Hello, this is Portland Audubon Societys Rare Bird Report. This recording was made Thursday September 11. If you have anything to add call Harry Nehls at 233-3976.

On September 9 a YELLOW RAIL was flushed several times at the effluent ponds on the North Spit of Coos Bay.

Two XANTUSS MURRELETS were found September 4 about 22 miles west of Beverly Beach in Lincoln County. A breeding plumaged HORNED PUFFIN was observed September 10 among a flock of MARBLED MURRELETS and CASSINS AUKLETS off the rocks just south of Yaquina Head.

The Bandon BAR-TAILED GODWIT was last reported September 6. The RUFF and a STILT SANDPIPER were there September 7. That day a STILT SANDPIPER, four BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPERS, and a RUFF were at the ponds on North Spit of Coos Bay. RED-NECKED PHALAROPES are still common over the state.

On September 7 a flock of 40 COMMON TERNS were at Bandon. Another flock was off New River, south of Bandon September 9. A small flock of PIPITS was at New River that day. An adult FORSTERS TERN and a few PIPITS were at Tillamook Bay September 4. On September 7 12 ARCTIC TERNS, several KITTIWAKES, and several thousand SOOTY SHEARWATERS were off the South Jetty of the Columbia River.

The RED-SHOULDERED HAWK continues to be seen at the Forest Grove Ponds, although it is rather elusive. On September 10 a flock of 12 MONK PARAKEETS was flying about Hillsboro.

A MARBLED GODWIT was at the Molalla Sewage Ponds September 4 and 5. A LARK SPARROW was near Dayton September 5. Two HORNED GREBES were on the Philomath Sewage Ponds September 5. A few are now showing up on the coast. Three small terns, thought to be COMMON TERNS, were at Fern Ridge Reservoir west of Eugene September 8.

Good numbers of RED CROSSBILLS are now in the Cascades. They are found mostly in Noble and Silver Firs, and Mountain Hemlock. A GOLDEN-CROWNED SPARROW was near Frog Lake, south of Mt. Hood September 7.

A road-killed PARASITIC JAEGER was found in the Cascades September 7 along Highway 22 just west of Santiam Junction.

A RED KNOT and two BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS were among a swarm of shorebirds at Malheur NWR September 8.
