Wednesday I went with Ed Schulz on a boating trip around the Everett
Waterfront and up Ebey and Steamboat Sloughs. We checked out the
Cormorant nests on the pilings out there and found many nests with young
fuzzy chicks. It amazes me that birds are still nesting this late in
the season. We saw many (more than 20) Ospreys all around the pilings
and up the Sloughs also, some still hanging around their old nests. It
was a fun experience to get up close and take a look at their oddly
built nests. By the way hunting for Canada Geese is open. I'm not sure
what the rules and regulations around this hunt are but on Tracy's
Audubon trip to Spencer we saw two hunters who bagged three geese apiece
and this Wednesday we saw a couple of camoflauged boats on the sloughs.
