Thanks to those of you who posted me privately or on Tweeters regarding the
proposed steel mill adjacent to Bowerman Basin. Grays Harbor Audubon has
written to the Port of Grays Harbor about our concerns. You can read the

The Port has just voted to put Bowerman airfield up for sale! It will be up
to the legislature to approve the huge tax breaks Nucor wants. They WANT
Hoquiam; it is apparently the last best place on the west coast for their
purposes, i.e. deep water port, with dock, in private hands (Rainier).
Congressman Dicks reportedly will attach a rider to a bill in Congres to
fast-track the permit process (so NO long EIS study). Nucor is planning for
a May 1998 construction start.

Here, we are starting to think mitigation (BIG time). Ideas appreciated.
