Hi Tweeters,

Just a quick note of interest. I captured a after-second year (ASY) male
Purple Finch (PUFI) at McChord AFB (Air Force Base) on 7/1/97 that was
banded by someone else somewhere else. My mail today had a Certificate of
Aprreciation from the banding lab in it. The bird was banded on 10/21/96
near Big Sur, California, about 850 miles away as a ASY PUFI. So that
makes the bird at least three years old.

That is the first long distance recovery that I have gotten out of 1725
birds banded at McChord. Sam Agnew, in Spanaway several miles away, has
captured several of my Purple Finchs in the past.

Foreign recoveries are few and far between. It is to a bander what a
White Wagtail is to a Washington Birder. Pretty darn cool.
