If you're interested in shore birds, a must-see is the Dungeness Spit.
Find the Dungeness Recreation Area on your map. You can park at a trail
leading to the spit. I'd estimate it's about a mile to walk down to the
spit (a pretty good climb back up to the parking lot).

The spit juts out into the Strait of Juan de Fuca. Their is good birding
on the "wild water" side (the straits) and also on the lagoons created by
the spit.

It's a beautiful spot. Take rain gear as it is usually very damp and
chilley in the fall.
