Tuesday, the 16th, Jim Ganley and I conducted a bird survey at the Lake Hills
Green Belt, Bellevue. What a fantastic day of birding. At 7:30 a.m. we saw
a mixed flock of warblers on the edge of Phantom Lake. Yellow Warbler,
Black-Throated Gray Warbler, Nashville Warbler (3), Orange Crowned Warbler,
Yellow-rumped Warbler, and a Warbling Vireo. Later, after crossing the
street to the primary trail, we encountered this same flock (our assumption)
in the deciduous trees just before the cedar tree grove. We saw 2
Black-Throated Gray Warblers, this time. Near the Lake HIlls Library we
watched a female Cooper's Hawk harrass two Northern Flickers. Lots of
vocalization. This harrassment went on for at least 10 minutes.
Quite a show.
