A follow up on the Red Knots reported yesterday. Today at Ft. Flagler
(9/18) from 12 to 3 there were no Redknots to be found. It was a wonderful
day to be trying out a new scope. There never was an old one so it was
quite a treat to see birds so clearly.

Two pelicans were hanging out in Port Townsend bay, the first I've seen.
Hundreds of common terns were also present with a few juvenile Jaegers
working em'. There were no adults to help distinguish species but based
upon relative abundance they were probably parasitic. The chases these two
species stage are breathtaking. So much power and agility in both birds.

The usual suspects were also out in force. Incredibly bright Harlequins
and a very red, red necked grebe were treats.

>Maybe I'm ignorant but, I was surprised to see two Redknots, an adult in
>breeding plumage and a juvenile, near the end of the long sandspit at Fort
>Flagler State Park. I saw them today, 9/17, at about 5:00PM, under
>stormy skies, at about high tide. Does anyone have an opinion as to how
>common Redknots are in the Puget Sound region at this time of year?
