Gads, I had actually forgotten the Costa Rican chiggers
until Louise Martell mentioned them. I had one bite that
itched for over a year after I got home. By all means, stock
up on Permanone (to treat clothing), sulfur to dust on
ankles and wrists, even deet. Don't wear the same
clothing the next day, unless it has been
laundered. And try not to roll on the ground like I did
(I was too short to step over barbed wire fences, so I
rolled under them).

There's some great stuff we used in Texas once called
"Chiggerid," which is sort of like clear nail polish spiked
with menthol or eucalyptus, for painting on the bites.

Well, every paradise has its down side.
