Wow what a fabulous weekend. I returned from a trip to the island via
Port Angeles yesterday. The ferry crossing was a calm sunny trip. The
birding was pretty good too. There were Red-necked Phalaropes
everywhere. Probably close to 350 birds in total mostly off the Victoria
waterfront but there were around 50 in Port Angeles harbor. Lots of
Common Murres (42 in US waters) and one each of Rhinoceros Auklet, Surf
Scoter and Common Loon all in breeding plumage. Also there were 6
Common Terns flyiing around the Hood Canal bridge.
