Tweeters- I just got some information via a friend from B.C. on a radio
tagged Perergrine. I've been away for a week so I apologize if this has
been reported already.
A female Peregrine was banded with a transmitter near Wood Buffalo
National Park in the very Northeast part of Alberta. This was ground
zero for an amazing migration story. On August 17 she was 11 km north
east of the nest sight. She started moving on August 20 and by August 30
she was located near Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. On September 2 she
traveled about 1050 km to Pierre, South Dakota. Next she was located
near Oklahoma City on September 5 and then Austin, Texas on September
8, a 530 km journey. Three days later she was located 80 km south of
Veracruz, Mexico, 1,400 km in 3 days which is 466 km per day. An
incredible testimony to the flying ability of falcons.
