My boss was fishing up off Hat Island near Whidbey Island on the 20th of
September and a Brown Pelican flew by the boat.
A more unusual record comes from Bruce Whittington (owns the Field
Naturalist Bookstore in Victoria) who worked a couple weeks as a
naturalist for a floating fish lodge. He was birding in Jervis Inlet
(mainland side across from Comox,B.C.) in August I think and saw a Brown
Pelcian from the vessel. He is an active and very good birder so I have
no doubt about the record. I guess one of the only good things coming
from an El Nino event is the weird and wonderful bird sightings.
