I can't beat Jervis Inlet but Brown Pelicans are sure covering a lot
more ground than usual. I got a call from a John Rawls who saw three
at the south end of Whidbey Island (off Skatchet Head) on Sunday,
September 21.

I also learned that the sea otter reported in south Puget Sound last year
has stuck around for an entire year and was recently seen in Henderson
Inlet.

Mark Stafford, a researcher tracking sea otters on the outer coast, has
reported seeing sea tracks on the beach at three locations in the past
several weeks. Sick or dead sea turtles occasionally show up on Washington's
beaches but live turtles with the energy to haul themselves up and down the
beach are unprecedented in my experience.
