This is the Lower Columbia Basin Audubon Society Bird Alert for September 2,

On August 23 at the pond at Milepost 300 on Highway 12, Dennis Rockwell
found a SEMIPALMATED PLOVER, BLACK-NECKED STILT, GREATER and LESSER
YELLOWLEGS, SEMIPALMATED, WESTERN, BAIRD'S AND PECTORAL SANDPIPERS and a
SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHER.

On August 24, Dennis Rockwell discovered an adult MEW GULL at the Kennewick
Sewage Ponds and I (Bob Woodley) observed 2 COMMON TERNS on the Yakima Delta.

Nancy LaFramboise and Ruth Fischer found 3 BLACK-NECKED STILTS on the Yakima
Delta on August 26 while on Bateman Island they observed WARBLING VIREO,
YELLOW, ORANGE-CROWNED and WILSON'S WARBLERS.

Dennis Rockwell reported 2 NASHVILLE WARBLERS at 2 Rivers Park on August 28.

Also on the 28th, Nancy LaFramboise and I birded WE Johnson Park and found a
DOWNY WOODPECKER, WESTERN WOOD-PEWEE, SOLITARY (CASSIN'S) and WARBLING
VIREO, ORANGE-CROWNED, NASHVILLE, YELLOW, TOWNSEND'S and WILSON'S WARBLERS,
a YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT, CHIPPING SPARROWS and a GRAY CATBIRD.

WESTERN SANDPIPERS made a first ever appearance in Two Rivers Park on August
29 according to Dennis Rockwell who saw a GREAT HORNED OWL there also.

Mike Denny found a MARBLED GODWIT and a RUDDY TURNSTONE on the Walla Walla
delta on August 29. The godwit was present the following day as noted by
Dennis Rockwell and Andy Stepniewski. Andy also saw SANDERLING and a
PEREGRINE FALCON there. Dennis also reported that the ponds off Dodd Road
behind the Iowa Beef plant had SEMIPALMATED, WESTERN, LEAST, BAIRD'S, and
STILT SANDPIPER and LONG-BILLED DOWITCHERS

On August 31, Reegan Weeks observed a TOWNSEND'S SOLITAIRE in her yard.

The real find on August 31 was a HUDSONIAN GODWIT on the Walla Walla Delta
discovered by Ken Knittle and Patrick Sullivan. Several local birders
converged on the delta on September 1 and found the Hudsonian Godwit, 19
MARBLED GODWITS, and an immature SABINE'S GULL among a myriad of other
birds. (The Hudsonian Godwit put on a spectacular display of its plumage by
flying directly over the crowd. It also circled out over the far shore of
the Columbia River in Benton county)
