Fellow Tweeterites,

This afternoon (26 September), Mike Denny reports a male Garganey on the
Walla Walla River delta. This bird was on the "old" delta, ie, the spit
nearest the railway tracks (near where the Steller's Eider was several
years ago for those who saw that waif).

Mike also reports an adult Red-shouldered Hawk in the "tall" poplars in
Madame Dorian Park a few hundred yards to the east of the Garganey spot
(the duck is west of the Hwy, the hawk just to the east of Hwy 12).

For those of you who don't know this site, the delta is about 1/4 mile
north of the junction of Hwys 12 and 730 in southern Walla Walla County.
Turn left off Hwy 12 just north of the bridge over the Walla Walla River,
proceed to a sandy parking area on the east side of the railway tracks,
cross over the tracks, walk west and find your way down to the mud on the
delta (through the willows). Wade (with rubber boots) across the shallow
channel, and proceed west, keeping an eye open for the Garganey.

Mike asked me to put these "1st" county reports on Tweeters.

So come on gang, it's Friday night. I can't imagine anything better to do
in Tweeterdom than to chase these rarities this weekend, can you?

Bye for now,

Andy Stepniewski
