Hi Tweets,
=20
Michael Price my son and I went for a day around Stanley Park to see =
what we could uncover. The day started out quite overcast and it was =
slightly spitting rain but soon stopped. We biked around the perimeter =
of the park and totaled 53 species. All in all it turned out to be =
quite a relaxing day. Unfortunately the clouds cleared at the days end =
:-( =20
=20
Highlights for the day were:
=20
Hutton's Vireo: singing with a bunch of Ruby-crowned Kinglets east =
beyond the stone bridge in some spruce trees. Townsend's Solitaire at =
Third Beach where we stopped to have lunch. A nice migrant passing =
through, 18 Harlequin Ducks (9 pairs), the singing Harris' Sparrow and =
the male Tufted Duck (still there). The rest of the species included:
=20
Oregon Junco
Mallard=20
Wood Duck=20
Greater Scaup=20
Pigeon Guillemot=20
Pileated Woodpecker=20
Red-winged Blackbird=20
White-crowned Sparrow (Gamble's)=20
Lesser Scaup
Northern Shoveler
Mute Swan
Black-capped Chickadee
Chestnut-backed Chickadee=20
Bufflehead=20
North-western Crow=20
Song Sparrow=20
Canada Goose=20
American Coot=20
Common Goldeneye=20
Glaucous-winged Gull (and some hybrids)=20
Fox Sparrows (Slate-colored and Sooty)
Bushtit=20
Bewick's Wren =20
Winter Wren
European Starling=20
Rock Dove=20
Great Blue Heron=20
Golden-crowned Kinglet=20
Spotted Towhee
American Robin
Bald Eagle=20
House Sparrow=20
Mew Gull=20
Barrows Goldeneye=20
Common Raven=20
Double-crested Cormorant=20
Brant's Cormorant=20
Pelagic Cormorant=20
Common Loon
Red-throated Loon
Pied-billed Grebe=20
Eared Grebe=20
Red-necked Grebe=20
Western Grebe=20
House Finch=20
Surf Scoter
Common Merganser=20

Larger numbers of birds have seemed to move out from the area and it was =
rather quite along the shoreline except for the many dogs and people. I =
think it was the jet skiers and boaters that probably sent many of the =
birds out to deeper water. Thats probably why we never did see the =
Yellow-billed Loon.
