Osoyoos is one of the best spots in BC for birding especially in the
spring. The ox-bows at the north end of the lake are a wildlife refuge
now (I think). Road 22 runs east-west and about 3 miles north of town on
hwy 97. Its a hot spot in the area for marsh birds
(ducks/shorebirds/herons/osprey). I've seen American Bittern/Long-billed
Curlew, Caspian Tern). You can drive the dike road along the river
(Black-headed Grosbeak/ Veery and Catbird are in the shrubs -though I
think that may be later in May) or the drive up dirt road on the east
side for an above the marsh view. The sage brush and cliffs on the east
side of the lake have many sage/antelope brush sparrows and some of the
hawks (Golden Eagles and Prairie Falcons). I've seen Grasshopper, Vesper
and Brewer's Sparrows along in the sage (as well as cactus so watch out)
. The Birds of the Okanagan is a great reference for the area. I suspect
if he contacts the OK Similkameen Conservation Alliance he will find
someone to help on tips. I grew up in Penticton and love the area for
