Hi Tweets,

For those of you that have not heard via the hotline the Common Eider AND a
King Eider, both males in full breeding plumage were once again seen off the
South Iona Jetty tip yesterday. The King was seen in the morning at 9:00am
and the Common was seen at around lunch time. They were first sighted a few
weeks ago left, but now reappeared!!!! Both can be found in amongst the
flocks of > 10,000 Surf and White-winged scoters. They all seem quite edgy
now-a-days so, will likely be off soon to breeding grounds.

While the King Eider is "very rare" and a vagrant along the coast it has
been sighted in BC (I have heard) only 14 times in recorded history for BC,
and all the sightings have been from protected waters including bays, inlets
and harbors, so to get one here in the open water is a first as well! As
for the Common Eider, only 2 records exist for this bird! October 27, 1934
north east Vancouver Island (Hardy Bay), and on October 31, 1949!

So, to get both together and in full breeding plumage is WOW!!!!!
