This morning we drove about 10 miles east of town and observed two GREAT
HORNED OWL chicks in the nest. We stayed back about 100 yds. and viewed
them from a higher elevation. I took some pictures useing a 300mm/4.0 +
1.4x + 2x tele-converters. I used Fuji Sensia II 400 slide film. I have
no idea how they will turn out.

This evening we drove to Wilbur (19 MI.) and observed a GREAT HORNED OWL
on the nest and saw one chick peeking out over the edge. We are not sure
how many chicks are there.

On our way home we saw three SHORT-EARED OWLS working the wheat fields.
We watched them catch mice--sit on fence posts and fly, then disappear
in the grass and then pop back up again. These were lifers for us!

We also saw four RED-TAILED HAWKS, two (M & F) NORTHERN HARRIERS, AND
three ROUGH-LEGGED HAWKS.

What a day!! That ought to last us for a while--well--until tomorrow
anyway. :-))
