Hello, this is Portland Audubon Society's Rare Bird Report. This

The BROWN THRASHER wintering along Bond Butte Road near Tub Run Road NE
of Harrisburg is still being seen. Three YELLOW-BILLED LOONS were
reported from Nehalem Bay April 7. They could use verification.

An offshore boat trip out 80-100 miles from Depoe Bay last week-end found
2 HORNED PUFFINS and 1 or 2 LAYSAN ALBATROSSES. They also encountered 218
BLACK-FOOTED ALBATROSSES and 238 FORK-TAILED STORM-PETRELS, 3 LEACH'S
STORM-PETRELS, a SABINE'S GULL, and 44 RED PHALAROPES.

Large rafts of PACIFIC LOONS and RED-THROATED LOONS were off Ecola State
park April 5. Good numbers of BLACK-LEGGED KITTIWAKES were also seen.
Shorebirds are beginning to increase both along the coast and through the
Willamette Valley. TOWNSEND'S WARBLERS were reported from many areas
during the week as the warbler movement increases.

The OSPREYS are now back at their nests in the Columbia River Gorge.
CANADA GEESE are now on their nests and the first MALLARD family was in
Eugene April 8.

A SAY'S PHOEBE and a LOGGERHEAD SHRIKE was at Santiam Flats at Detroit
over the week-end. A flock of BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS and some CLIFF
SWALLOWS were at the Baskett Slough NWR April 8. Twelve BLACK-BELLIED
PLOVERS were near Brownsville April 5.

The ROSS'S GOOSE is still at Ankeny NWR. A GRAY JAY was at the unusual
location of a Philomath suet feeder; a BLACK PHOEBE was in Alton Baker
Park in Eugene April 1; a CHIPPING SPARROW was at Sutherlin April 5; and
a calling SWAINSON'S THRUSH was reported from Grants Pass April 2.

The Millican SAGE GROUSE lek was active last weekend with 40 strutting
males and 3 demure females in attendance. The road into the lek is open
from 5-8 AM on week-ends to the end of the month. It is closed during the
week.

Thats it for this week.
