At Marymoor today, we had a couple of good birds out on Lake Samm. First
was a beautiful alternate-plumage Common Loon, pretty close in. From my
records, last week and this week are definitely the peak of loon migration
through Lake Samm. Much further out was an alternate-plumage Red-necked
Grebe; new to our Marymoor list.

The Bald Eagles were at the nest, and an immature eagle flew passed as well.

We had a nice look at a female Rufous Hummingbird, and also at several males
displaying.

We saw a Catharus thrush that had to be a Hermit Thrush based on date. It
was an extremely uncooperative bird, however, and never allowed a good view.

Common Yellowthroats were calling from everywhere - at least 25.

The fields were full of Savannah Sparrow, and at the Pea Patch was a single
White-crowned Sparrow singing. White-crowns are very common all winter, but
a singing White-crown in the nature area of Marymoor is unusual (though
common just up-slope from the park).

All told, around 40 species.
