...............Now I know that winter is past!!!!!!!!! The Steller Jays
are back in my mobile-home park, and they are back to teasing my orange
tabby cat(when he is out) and dining off my dry cat food on my back
porch(the little "knibble-sized morsels" are just right for their
beaks). Sure a noisy bunch!!!!!!!!
...............Our little friend at the Columbia Sportswear Co. parking
lot(in north Portland, Oreg.)---the White-crowned Sparrow---is back
again to seranade us in our breaks.(there may be several, but tis one
always graces the trees by the lot.)
...............Haven't heard ma and pa Canada Geese creating quite a din
by the paeking lot this year(maybe, with the increased building going
around the company this year, they may have settled on some quieter spot
than the swamp next to the parking lot. Do hear plenty of these big
geese though fly over my mobile home(a number of them raise broods on a
pond about 2 miles away)
..............Visited Long Beach Peninsula, Wash. this
weekend.........cold, showery type of weather. Saw plenty of Sanderlings
and Dunlin(both changing into their summer plummage). Some Red-breasted
Mergansers and Loons(was raining and hard to identify---looked similar
to Common Loon---were changing to summer-wear). Many flocks of Canadas
winging northwards over the shoreline. Didn't really do any 'serious'
bird-watching---more interested in resting and enjoying the soothing
sounds of the ocean waves this time around!!!!!!!!
...............Did see, however, an unusual number of Ring-necked
Pheasants prancing around. Usually I don't see any, but this trip saw
them on 4 or 5 different occasions!!!!!!!!!!!
