Hi Tweeters:

Monday afternoon I was sitting in my livingroom when I observed an
eagle flying along the bluff heading south. As it neared, I thought it
had a white head, but ran to get my binocs. I couldn't find the bird
when I first got back to the window, but looked up just in time to see
it circle overhead. The head was not white, so I thought I was
observing a sub-adult bald, but it wasn't - there were definite bands on
the tail. Can't imagine it was other than a golden eagle. Have never
seen one along the shoreline before and wouldn't have been as surprised
if it were a sub-adult. I went outside to try to get another look, but
it was gone. Darn!

Saw my first ospreys - probably the pair that uses the light pole for a
nest below Legion Park.

One more thing. Last week my sister reported that there was a killdeer
pair with two chicks in a little patch of grass at the greenhouse where
she works. All the employees had to go look and as Linda approached the
birds, both adults simultaneously ran away in opposite directions from
the chicks and both simultaneously fell to the ground feigning injury
making crying noises. The employees were amazed by the display and
thought the tiny chicks were really cute. Of course, the next day, the
killdeer family moved elsewhere.
