On April 2, Bill LaFramboise found a YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRD in the small
marsh across Highway I-182 from the Fred Meyer store in Richland.

On April 3, Larry Fischer observed the first OSPREY for the year over the
Yakima River, over the Chamna Preserve in Richland. On the same day I (Bob
Woodley) flushed an immature BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON on the Yakima Delta.

Bill and Nancy LaFramboise, Ruth Fischer and Franny Drobny (WOS fieldtrip)
birded the southside of Rattlesnake Mountain on April 4 and along Rotha
Road found SAGE THRASHER, BREWER'S, VESPER and SAGE SPARROWS while at the
small ponds along Bunn Road, they saw a TUNDRA SWAN, 2 BLACK-NECKED STILTS,
an AMERICAN AVOCET, DUNLIN, and 3 NORTHERN ROUGH-WINGED SWALLOWS.

On April 5, the nesting platform across the Columbia River from the Hampton
Inn in Richland contained 2 OSPREY (BW).

Two CASPIAN TERNS appeared in the Yakima Delta on April 6 (BW).

Ed Rykiel reported a LONG-EARED OWL in a mulberry tree along the path
behind WSU in Richland on April 8. The owl was also present on April 10
and a BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON was in a nearby tree.

Also on April 10, Mike Denny found a pair of nesting LONG-EARED OWLS at
Crow Butte State Park and 4 RED-BREASTED MERGANSERS on the riverside of
Whitcomb Island.

My wife Pat and I found the HARRIS' SPARROW and a LINCOLN'S SPARROW in Two
Rivers County Park on April 11, while later that day, Craig Corder, Judy
Stevens and I saw a SWAINSON'S HAWK along Snively Road in West Richland and
3 CINNAMON TEAL plus all 6 REGULARLY OCCURRING SWALLOW SPECIES on the
Yakima Delta.

Jerry Nelson reported 2 BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERONS, 1 at the McNary NWR on
April 11 and the other near Bateman Island on April 13.

Dennis Rockwell reported a SPOTTED TOWHEE, a LINCOLN'S SPARROW and a pair
of "MYRTLE" YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS in Two Rivers Park on April 12.

On April 13, Phil Bartley found a LONG-EARED OWL and 3 "MYRTLE"
YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS on Bateman Island.

Also on the 13th, Nancy LaFramboise and I found along Case and Rotha Roads
on the southside of Rattlesnake Mountain, a FERRUGINOUS HAWK, 2 SWAINSON'S
HAWKS, a SHORT-EARED OWL and all of the sage birds mentioned previously.
The ponds along Bunn Road yielded at least 6 BLACK-NECKED STILTS.
