I've found that wearing my socks pulled up on the outside of my pant legs,
and taking a shower every day after coming in from chigger territory deters
most chiggers. On my last trip I traveled very light and had only two
pairs of pants. Since I couldn't wash them every day, one night, I rolled
up the pair I would wear the next day and put it in the freezer of our
small refrigerator. It worked so well that I started storing my pants in
the freezer and switching them every day. This was very effective, but
I'm sure the housekeeper thought I was nuts.
