Tweets,

Today, my dad, Michael Price, and I went to Cypress Bowl Park in
North
Vancouver. The day started out slightly overcast, but ended in
sunshine. My dad and I were looking for several "target species":
Blue Grouse, Northern Pygmy Owl, and any other mid-high elevation bird.
We did not succeed in visually locating any Blue Grouse or Northern
Pygmy Owl, but we did hear the low, muffled booming calls of several
Blue Grouse (Michael told my dad and I that they were ventriloquial so
we did not try very hard to try and spot them). We did have a good day
never the less. Here is a partial list of the birds we saw while we
were up on the mountain:

Turkey Vulture-4 or 5 riding thermals back and forth around the mountain
Osprey-1 flew overhead, heading for Howe Sound
Bald Eagle
Sharp-Shinned Hawk-only 1
Coopers Hawk-only 1 and it had all of us thinking Goshawk? for awhile
Red-tailed Hawk
Blue Grouse-heard several calling, but never saw any
Killdeer
Band-tailed Pigeon-1 was in display flight, with his head held upward
Anna's Hummingbird- also in display flight. Flew straight way, way up
higher than any Rufous I'd ever seen, then came buzzing down ending with
a rapid tiz-erk.
Rufous Hummingbird
Red-breasted Sapsucker
Nothern Flicker
Pileated Woodpecker- only heard 1
Empidonax Flycatcher Spc.- possible Hammonds
Violet Green Swallow
Stellers Jay
Northwestern Crow-only 1 not very common up there
Common Raven
Chestnut-backed Chickadee
Black-capped Chickadee
Winter Wren
Ruby-crowned Kinglet
Hermit Thrush- hunkered down in brush, hard to see
American Robin
Varied Thrush
American Pipit- only 1 flying over, heard it first
Orange-crowned Warbler- were doing their trill calls, throughout the
mountain
Spotted Towhee
Golden-crowned Sparrow
White-crowned Sparrow
Junco
Pine Siskin

All and all, a great Sunday, and we recognized huge potential for future
birding in this park.
