Subject: Eagles at the Locks et all

Last Thursday, Apr 16th at the Ballard Locks there were two mature Bald
Eagles in almost the same pattern I posted about last time. The first
flew N. over the railroad bridge, the 2nd. flew E. over the canal, then
headed ENE. Today an immature flew E. then N.

The smolt are running, the first "crop" were Bill Gates' smolt (I guess
he has his own hatchery, or at least released some Coho from his
property.) The new bunch are hatchery Coho as well, no adipose fin. About
20 Western Grebes are fishing with the Goldeneyes and two female
Red-breasted Mergansers and the usual Herons. New arrivals include
alternate plumaged Horned Grebe and Bonaparte's Gull, one each. The
Kingfishers are active, a M/F pair was chattering around the locks this
morning. I think I have their burrow narrowed down to an area between the
Railroad bridge and the restaurant next to the locks. That bank is
inaccessible except by boat or rope, but there were signs about a
possible development there, including filling in along the bank. I hope
not.

I don't know how other Juno users feel, but I'm tired of the constant
ads, and now I have a second signature line I have no control over. Juno
is free, but think twice before you use it. Maybe on a faster computer,
the ads wouldn't cause such a constant delay.
