A parent at our school brought in an unhatched egg. She believes the
other eggs were hatched and the young already fledged. This seems
strange to me, but not impossible.

I don't know yet where the egg was found, but it is about an inch and a
half in length (possibly longer, I don't have it in front of me),
off-white, with dark gray or black spots covering a great deal of the
egg. Apparently the parents were never seen. Any ideas?

By the way, for those concerned, I frequently inform the people at our
school of the various laws governing such things as possession of wild
bird eggs. This is out of my control!
