Tweeters,

Recently there was a thread about the fact that the sounds of a
white-crowned sparrow as heard here in Washington were not
what one really hears on certain collections of bird sounds. I
have the Petersen CD-ROM, and the bird sounds on it are frequently
unlike what I can hear from certain local birds. The songs I hear
from Bewick's wrens right now are not to be heard on the Petersen
CD-ROM, nor are the ray-gun-like trills from the spotted towhees
right now. The white-crowned sparrows that I hear do not sound
like what is on the CD-ROM either. ETc, etc.

My question is, is one of the commercially available CD-ROMs
known for including western (or Washington) songs and calls? Is
there a local collection available in some form? Dennis Paulson
must have gotten this minor project out of the way early in his
life, right?

Or perhaps it is only a small collection of birds that differ
significantly
from their eastern or California brethren?
