This is an adult male southern, or vitelline masked weaver, also known in
the pet trade as half-masked weaver, Ploceus velatus. This is a species
that we have exhibited in our African Savannah Aviary for many years.
Although we are not aware of any that are missing, it is very likely that
it is an escape from this exhibit. Cliff, was it banded? If so, which leg,
what color(s)? How long ago did you see/photograph it? Sounds like if was
late march at the most recent. If you see it again please contact the zoo
asap. Thanks.
