Sauvie Island, Sun., April 26th. Someone recently said the Purple
Martins were at their usual nest site. Can anyone tell me where this is?
I've been there only once before, but have the map you get when you pay
the parking fee. Any other hints as of best birding places would be
appreciated. I'm from N.C. Wash., so there must be some more new species
there for me. Thanks. Meredith

On Saturday afternoon, many Purple Martins were perched on martin houses
mounted on pilings in the slough channel across from the Sauvie Island
fruit market. Upon coming onto Sauvie Island, stop at the market and get
a parking permit, then continue straight on. After coming up onto the
elevated berm, look for the martin houses on the pilings on the left.
There is also another nest site near Oak Island, however I haven't
visited it this spring.
