Hello, this is Portland Audubon Society's Rare Bird Report. This
recording was made Thursday April 23. If you have anything to add call

A possible XANTUS'S MURRELET was observed off Yaquina Head, north of
Newport April 19. A possible YELLOW-BILLED LOON was observed April 18
among 351 COMMON LOONS and 49 HORNED GREBES at Wickiup Reservoir south of
Bend. The MOCKINGBIRD wintering along Danebo Road in east Eugene was seen
again April 19.

Heavy shorebird movements were reported along the coast during the week.
Among the more regular species were RED KNOTS at New River, at Coos Bay,
and at Tillamook Bay. Two AVOCETS were at the South Jetty of the Siuslaw
River April 21. CASPIAN TERNS and BONAPARTE'S GULLS were also moving in
good numbers.

A WESTERN KINGBIRD was near Langlois April 19; a PACIFIC-SLOPE FLYCATCHER
was at Brookings April 18. Over a dozen GREAT EGRETS may be nesting at
Pony Slough in Coos Bay this spring. Many TUFTED PUFFINS were at Three
Arch Rocks and at Cape Meares April 19. A flock of SOOTY SHEARWATERS were
off Cape Meares April 19. A LOGGERHEAD SHRIKE was at Tillamook April 18.
A SCRUB JAY was at Cape Meares Village April 22.

A RED-NAPED SAPSUCKER was at Virginia Lake on Sauvie Island April 19; one
was seen near Grand Ronde in Yamhill County the day before. A BULLOCK'S
ORIOLE was on Oak Island on Sauvie Island April 18. Seven TRICOLORED
BLACKBIRDS were at their Gertz Road nesting site in North Portland April
18. Also on April 18 a WESTERN TANAGER and a TOWNSEND'S SOLITAIRE were in
northwest Portland. Large numbers of migrants were at Mt. Tabor Park in
Portland April 22, including at least 10 TOWNSEND'S SOLITAIRES, HAMMOND'S
FLYCATCHERS, PACIFIC-SLOPE FLYCATCHERS, and NASHVILLE and WILSON'S
WARBLERS. MACGILLIVRAY'S WARBLERS were also moving through the Willamette
Valley during the week.

A HORNED GREBE and a BONAPARTE'S GULL were at Fernhill Wetlands at Forest
Grove April 19. GREAT EGRETS were reported during the week from Astoria,
near Trojan, Scappoose Bottoms, Sauvie Island, and at Baskett Slough NWR.
A LOGGERHEAD SHRIKE was near Dayton April 22. The ROSS'S GOOSE was still
at Baskett Slough NWR April 20, along with about 15,000 CANADA GEESE. A
WRENTIT was along Mistletoe Road, south of Dallas April 20.

Among the many birds at Detroit Flats, in the Cascades east of Salem
April 18 were a BREWER'S SPARROW, a CALLIOPE HUMMINGBIRD, and a COMMON
LOON. On April 18 a LARK SPARROW was near the junction of Vogt Road and
Milliron Road south of Junction City and another was seen that day in the
East Coyote Unit at the south end of Fern Ridge Reservoir. Two
territorial GRASSHOPPER SPARROWS were in the Unit that day, and a
FORSTER'S TERN was over the reservoir. A SOLITARY SANDPIPER and a
BULLOCK'S ORIOLE there in the East Coyote Unit April 22. Several WESTERN
KINGBIRDS were in the Eugene area April 22.

A BLACK-HEADED GROSBEAK was at a Roseburg feeder April 18. A male
BLACK-CHINNED HUMMINGBIRD was at a Mosier feeder April 18.
