Hello Tweets,

Yesterday(April 22nd) I birded mainly in Grays Harbor Co. with 117 species,
and mostly sunny skies and localized morning fog, and coastal winds. I
started my day with 2 Osprey and 1 GREEN HERON at Montesano, and the 2 AM.
WHITE PELICANS at Bowerman Basin. 1 MERLIN and a single female CANVASBACK
were at the HOQUIM S.T.P. A generous walk through a small part of Ocean
City S.P. produced 1 CASSIN'S VIREO, 7 BLACK-THROATED GRAY WARBLERS, 5
TOWNSEND'S WARBLERS, 5 HERMIT THRUSHES, and 2 LINCOLN'S SPARROWS. The Ocean
Shores G.C. was deserted of golf players at 8:30am, so I believe shorebirds
took advantage of the open space, with 245 MARBLED GODWITS, 4 WHIMBREL, 8
L. SANDPIPERS,and 1 RED KNOT present the front 9 holes. North of Bill's
Spit on the east side (bay side) of Ocean Shores an amazing 108 COMMON
LOONS were tallied with a group of 78 in one flock, and the remainder loose
or in pairs, which were all in breeding plumage. 178 MARBLED GODWITS, 150
SHORT-BILLED DOWICHERS, and lesser numbers of Dunlin, and W.Sandpipers were
also noted. 1 TOWNSEND'S SOLITAIRE was observed in the brushy field, just
north of the O.S. Marina. Damon Pt. proved NOT to be too productive, but 12
SEMIPALMATED PLOVERS, 1 MERLIN, and a single male CANVASBACK were observed
all near or at the "pond". My final stop at O.S. was made at the sheltered
cove behind the O.S.S.T.P., where 4 BLACK SCOTERS were noted. North of
Ocean Shores, at Pt. Grenville near Taholah 5 TUFTED PUFFINS and a single
PEREGRINE FALCON were observed, where both species probably breed. On my
way home I birded the Satsop-Elma area, where 1 W.SCRUB JAY was noted in
Satsop, and a very large flock of 135 BAND-TAILED PIGEONS along Wenzel
Slough Rd. 12 TURKEY VULTURES were observed along Hwy. 12 between the
Wynoochee River bridge and Brady, where they are typically seen.
A quick walk through the Chehalis Wildlife Area, east of Satsop produced 2
AM. BITTERNS(heard only), and a final stop of the day at Black Lake Meadows
near Tumwater produced 1 SOLITARY SANDPIPER, 2 WILSON'S WARBLERS, and 1
LINCOLN'S SPARROWS(which and House Sparrow) were new for the location,
putting "our" list for this site at 97 species since last spring.
