Was cycling around town yesterday on a variety of errands and noted that
wherever there were trees there were numbers of singing Yellow-rumped
Warblers Dendroica coronata, about 75% Audubon's, 25% Myrts; a few
Orange-crowned Warblers Vermivora celata; gambelii- and pugetensis-race
White-crowned Sparrows Zonotrichia leucophrys and Golden-crowned Sparrows Z.
atricapilla (their forlorn-sounding song tells you why they're known in some
parts of Alaska as 'Weary Willie', after the melancholically cheerful (yeah,
oxymoron, I know, but that was his character) Red Skelton character). Both
singing in the backyard this aft.
