April 28, 1998, Tuesday, 10:21 a.m. Hi, this is Dave Beaudette (206)
365-2083. I'm in the process of making a birding sweep through South
King County and at the south end of the Kent Ponds, as viewed from the
asphalt trail that runs along the metal power line towers in there, was
a breeding plumaged BAIRD'S SANDPIPER. I believe this is the first
breeding plumaged BAIRD's I've seen in the state, so it's kind of an
important bird. So if you can get down there and look at it, do so.
I'll call later about the other birds. The BAIRD'S SANDPIPER was seen
from 8:45 a.m. from 10:00 a.m. on the 28th of April. Catch you later.

April 27, 1998, Monday, 11:24 a.m. Bill Shelmerdine in Olympia,
Washington, 866-9106. And this morning, Monday, there was a SOLITARY
SANDPIPER at the storm water ponds along Mottman Road in Olympia. To
get there from I-5, take Highway 101 North and exit at the Black Lake
Boulevard southwest exit. Bear left about a quarter or a mile to a BP
station. Turn left again, that's Mottman Road. Pass a smaller pond on
the right until you pass just over the creek and there's a gate and a
gravel road. Enter there and walk into the ponds in the back. Good
luck and good birding.
