Subject: Kachemak Bay Shorebird Festival

The Sixth Annual Kachemak Bay Shorebird Festival will be held in Homer,
Alaska, on May 7 - 10, 1998. The four days, Thursday through Sunday, are
filled with birding activities for the serious as well as the casual
birder and their families including: guided bird walks daily, assisted
viewing of shorebirds along the Homer Spit, trips to find seabirds on
Kachemak Bay, wooden yacht sailing tour, wildlife tour, photography and
optics workshops, kayak tour, flight-seeing tour, workshop on birding by
ear, shorebird habitat preservation program, live owl presentation,
shorebird id workshops, many programs for children, lectures, arts and
crafts fair, dance party, and other social functions.

Saturday May 9, is International Migratory Bird Day - the wrap up is
Sunday morning. Join in the Migration Run on Sunday. Special lectures
include Ocean Nomads, the flying gentle giants by reknowned seabirder
Peter Harrison, a slide presentation of the Alaska Maritime Refuge by John
Schoen of the Audubon Society, Seven Years and Seven Continents - a
keynote presentation by Peter Harrison, Coping with Cold, a study of the
wintering population of Rock Sandpipers in Alaska by Bob Gill, A
Shorebird's Year, the Rest of the Story by Phil Martin, and more.
