While lying in the sun on the back deck yesterday afternoon (yes, life
is tough, but then I was at work at 4:30am) I heard a great commotion
coming from the area where our local crow tribe has been nesting.
Picked up my field glasses (had been warbler watching) and saw that a
RAVEN was in the crows nest with new hatchling in beak!! Needless to
say Raven was being pummeled by ma and pa crow. Still, he took the
hatchling firmly in beak and carried it off all the while being attacked
by the parent birds. Pretty brazen raven; I've seen this same crow pair
drive off Bald Eagles that were just cruising by in the past couple of
weeks.

During the past couple of afternoons I've seen numerous warblers
(Yellow, Yellow Rumped, BT Grey, Orange Crowned) as well as Evening
Grosbeaks, a House Wren, and Western Tanagers. This morning I was
awakened by what I am positive was a Black-Headed Grosbeak singing -
I'll try to hunt him down this afternoon.
