This is Kas Dumroese with the northern Idaho / eastern Washington /
northeastern Oregon bird hotline.

About 20 pairs of TRI-COLORED BLACKBIRDS are on colony in
Umatilla Co., OR, near Stanfield, just southeast of Hermiston. Take
I-84 exit 188 north to Stanfield Meadows Road, according to Mike and
MerryLynn Denny who saw the birds of Apr 11. OR DeLorme 85,
AB-7.

A single ROSS'S GOOSE was about 5 miles east of the junction of US
12 and US 730 in western Walla Walla Co., WA on Apr 24, according
to Mike and MerryLynn Denny. Specifically, the bird was along US 12,
on a small island in the Walla Walla River 0.5 mile east of Pierce's
Green Valley RV Park. WA DeLorme 40, D-2.

Just west of the Ross's, 2 HARRIS'S SPARROWS and a single WHITE-
THROATED SPARROW are still at Madame Dorian Park. Madame
Dorian is at US 12 milepost 307, just north of the junction of US 12
and US 730 in western Walla Walla Co., WA. The park is on the east
side of the highway along North Shore Road. Look for the sparrows,
which have been present all winter, along the gravel two-track
southwest of the bathrooms. WA DeLorme 40, D- 1.

At the Walla Walla River Delta, which can be accessed 0.1 mile north
of Madame Dorian Park, Mike and MerryLynn had 48 AMERICAN
AVOCETS, 3 GLAUCOUS-WINGED GULLS, 2 BLACK-CROWNED
NIGHT-HERONS, a few TUNDRA SWAN and AMERICAN WHITE
PELICANS on Apr 24. There's a pull-out along US 12 at milepost
306.9 and a path to the delta. WA DeLorme 40, D-1.

Two EURASIAN WIGEONS are in this same area as well. On Apr 24,
Mike and MerryLynn found the birds down Dodd-Iowa Beef Road,
which is at US 12 milepost 301.5. Follow Dodd-Iowa east past the
slaughter house, the road goes down a little hill and then back up. At
the top, turn right onto a gravel road that used to be a railroad grade.
Follow it to settling ponds and the wigeons. WA DeLorme 40, CD-1.

A BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER in breeding plumage was reported at Crow
Butte State Park in southwestern Benton Co., WA on Apr 23 by Craig
Corder and Judy Stevens. Also at the park were 11 LEAST
SANDPIPERS, 2 BLACK-NECKED STILTS, 14 AMERICAN AVOCETS, 6
GREATER-WHITE FRONTED GEESE, and over 100 CASPIAN TERNS.
Crow Butte is an island in the Columbia River accessed off WA 14 near
the Benton Co., Klickitat Co. line. WA DeLorme 28, B-2.

Just east of Crow Butte, at the Umatilla NWR Whitcom Island Unit,
Craig and Judy had a single EURASIAN WIGEON. A single CASPIAN
TERN was at the south end of Rock Lake in northern Whitman Co.,
WA on Apr 23, according to John and Amy Roberson. Rock Lake is
about 8 miles northwest of St. John. Take WA 23 to Ewan and then
head north on Rock Lake Road and about 1.5 miles to the lake. WA
DeLorme 72, CD-3.

Spring arrivals in the Moscow, ID Pullman, WA area included RUFOUS
HUMMINGBIRDS, a few more SWAINSON'S HAWKS, hordes of
WHITE-CROWNED SPARROWS, CHIPPING SPARROWS, VAUX'S
SWIFTS, ORANGE, YELLOW-RUMPED, and NASHVILLE WARBLERS.
WESTERN KINGBIRDS were sighted in several locations in the central
WA basin. Thanks to Charles Swift, Deb Beutler, John Hirth, and Tom
Besser for their sightings.

If you need any information about the sightings, give me a call at
