I'm new to tweeters so this report is about an occurrence the week before
last.

E. WA went through a streak of about two weeks of unusually cold weather
just a few weeks ago. My valley has its own micro-climate (COLD) and the
overnight temperature was between 19-26 (only warming up to the low 40s in
the daytime) for a week or so after the first three pairs of Western
Bluebirds appeared. With that kind of weather the insect population wasn't
much to speak of so they were limited in their food choices. I have two
suet blocks hanging from two different areas - one in a lilac bush that I
can watch from my kitchen window. For four days in a row, two female W. B.
hung on that suet holder (one bird at a time!) and munched on the suet.
This is the first time I've seen any bluebirds on my suet blocks. Has
anyone else noticed this behavior - either this year or in previous years?
