I don't know about birds, but I've been told raccoons and/or skunks
will. One of my professors way back when used to put abalone shells
in his garden (upside down), creating little 'slug caves'. The
slugs crawled in in the morning to hide from the sun and heat,
and the skunks and raccoons would come through in the evening, flip
the shell over, and feast on the slugs.
