Subject: Is Nest Use Finished?

Dear Tweeters,

My neighbor has contracted with someone to come this Thursday and cut back the
laurel hedge that runs between our back yards. (The laurel is on his property,
so I have only limited say about what happens to it.)

This morning, while poking through part of the hedge, I found two bird nests.
I'm sure there are others. We don't get much avian variety around
here--mostly English sparrows, robins, house finches, chickadees, and bushtits
(I can't identify bird nests). As far as I know, all the birds have fledged.

My question is: Have the nests already served their purpose, or will birds
return to them for another sitting this summer if they are still in place?

I'm sorry to see the shelter vanish that the dense laurel provided. Not many
places around my yard that the crows don't know about.
