I have made reservations to fly to the area on the 6th and return on the
20th of September. I have MacRae's book but realize that I need to get
the Wahl and Paulson book. Any ideas of must places to bird for the
first timer and any scheduled birding outings to take advantage of?

My initial thinking is to do a loop in the Northern Cascades and the
Olympic Peninsula, but some of the Marylanders who have traveled to the
area have included Vancouver and the road across to Manning Park. Does
this loop add complications without significant benefit?

Unfortunately I chose to arrive on the Sunday of a holiday weekend. Does
this suggest that I should avoid some specific areas because of the
anticipated holiday traffic?

Are there any ways of minimizing the onerous car rental surcharges and
taxes (28%)?

Any ideas and suggestions are appreciated.
