I hope you don't mind my CCing this to tweeters.
Thanks for the additional information on Jack. Your tale of his boycott of
the ELWAS meeting reminded me of his mentioning that Republican Ralph Munro
was a purple martin advocate, and that Ralph had established a purple martin
colony on Mud Bay in Olympia. I can't recall what Ralph's elected position
was, but despite Munro's political affiliation, Jack said Ralph was "a good
man."

Spring has been a special time for me in the past few years, in part for the
arrival of avian migrants, and also for the camaraderie that would flourish
in the nesting season among the purple martin enthusiasts. I know he did a
lot more than just martin conservation, but that's primarily how I knew him;
I'll miss those calls from Jack.
