Columbia Estuary Report - 8/5/98

A LONG-TAILED JAEGER was seen at the SJCR on Monday.

Shorebird movements have been disappointing. Up to 3 LESSER
YELLOWLEGS, and 13 LONG-BILLED DOWITCHERS have been seen in
Warrenton near the Skipannon River.

Efforts at banding shorebirds at SJCR have been dismal. In two
days of trying, 2 HY BARN SWALLOWS, a SAVANNA SPARROW and an
ANISE SWALLOWTAIL have been all we've managed. Only 10 WESTERN
SANDPIPERS, and 2 LEAST SANDPIPERS were seen (and only briefly) at
the ponds. A single WHIMBREL flew over the ponds on Tuesday.
2 BRANT were seen today.
