Bob and Tweeters,
There are historical records of GREAT GRAY OWL from Southern
Skamania County. They were reported at the turn of the century from the
Greenleaf Basin above the town of North Bonneville. About ten years ago I
had a couple of non-birder golfers call me to ask what was the very large
owl they saw along the golf course at North Bonneville.Their description
was of an "earless" owl larger than a Great Horned, which they had seen
before.
A employee at the local sporting goods store told me that he had
seen Great Gray Owls this spring while Turkey hunting in the headwaters
of Major Creek in Klickitat County, south of the Conboy Refuge. He had
good views of the bird from less than thirty feet using binoculars and is
a birder and an experienced woodsman.
I have had Great Gray Owl twice in the vicinity of the abandoned
Satus Pass Ski Area in Klickitat County. The last time I found the bird
there was on May 20, 1997.

Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day,
Teach him to fish and he will sit in a boat and drink beer all day..
