Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This
recording was made Thursday August 6. If you have anything to add call
Harry Nehls at 233-3976.

A juvenile LONG-TOED STINT was reported at high tide August 5 on the
Bayocean Shorebird Flats at Tillamook Bay.

The LEAST TERN continues to be seen from the nature trail behind the
Marine Science Center on Yaquina Bay.

A number of ELEGANT TERNS are now moving northward along the Oregon
coast. Sixty were at the mouth of the Rogue River; 15 at the mouth of the
Siuslaw River; and 10 at the South Jetty of Yaquina Bay August 5. Twenty
RHINOCEROS AUKLETS were in the Siuslaw River mouth August 3 and up to 10
have been observed between the jetties at Yaquina Bay.

Good numbers of TATTLERS are being seen along the coast and large flocks
of SURFBIRDS are being reported. One hundred RED-NECKED PHALAROPES were
in the Siuslaw River mouth August 1.

An offshore boat trip out of Depoe Bay August 1 found a number of
RED-NECKED PHALAROPES, 2 jaegers, and 12 ARCTIC TERNS. A LONG-TAILED
JAEGER was at the South Jetty of the Columbia River August 3.

The Columbia River has dropped considerably during the week exposing
large mud flats on Sauvie Island. Shorebird numbers are still rather low
but a SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPER and several BAIRD'S SANDPIPERS are among
those that were present during the week. Five BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS and a
LONG-EARED OWL were at Baskett Slough NWR August 4.

An adult LONG-BILLED CURLEW was among the shorebird swarms at Ankeny NWR
August 1. A juvenile bird was there earlier this fall. Up to 15 BAIRD'S
SANDPIPERS were there that day also.

Many birds are moving around now, with a number already moving southward.
A RED-SHOULDERED HAWK was near Sutherlin August 2. A BREWER'S SPARROW was
near Lower Table Rock in the Rogue Valley August 4. A RED-EYED VIREO was
in the Klamath River Gorge July 30.

Thats it for this week.
