I've also encountered vary tame White-crowned Sparrows in
typically "wild" situations. It's fun to try to picture the
backyard where this bird might winter--the home of a kind
retired couple in California--perhaps the SF bay area. Birds
thick in the yard as the couple's whole life is devoted to
feeding birds--etc.
