You lucky dog. I love New Mexico. In town, I went to the Rio Grande Nature
Preserve. I don't have exact directions, but it is north of I-40 along the
river. It looks like, from my small map, you take Candelaria Road east toward
the river. There are ponds and trails around the visitor's center with
hummingbird feeders and such. The trails lead down to the river. I saw my
first and only Greater Roadrunner on one of the trails! Another lifer:
Gambel's Quail. Others included Mourning Dove, Red-winged Blackbird, Wood
Duck, Cinnamon Teal, Canada Goose, Great-tailed Grackle, Empidonax Flycatchers
(that I couldn't ID at the time, and probably still couldn't), Black-chinned
Hummingbird, White-breasted Nuthatch.
