I buy suet cakes and have them out year-round for woodpeckers, nuthatches,
chickadees, etc. The purchased kind doesn't melt in the summer heat like the
plain suet I used to get from the butcher. I have one of those "upside down"
type suet feeders that thwart most of the other birds so aren't bothered by
starlings and others.
