I just got back from Colorado, one week was at a cabin at 8900 ft., about 10
miles north of Silverthorne. The 31 birds I recorded are as follows:

Great Blue Heron- flying up the Blue R. valley.
Red-tailed Hawk
American Kestrel
Mourning Dove
Broad-tailed Hummingbird - The BTHU & RUHU continually battled for control of
the feeder with the RUHU seeming to be dominant.
Rufous Hummingbird- one survived a collision with a window after 15-20 min.
Downy Woodpecker
Hairy Woodpecker
Northern Flicker
Olive-sided Flycatcher- This is first time I was aware of their Pip-Pip-Pip
call. I had only heard the "Quick-three-beers" song before.
Western Wood-Pewee
Willow Flycatcher- Also the first time I had heard the "Breeeeet" call.
Steller's Jay
Gray Jay
American Crow
Mountain Bluebird
American Robin
Red-breasted Nuthatch
House Wren
Violet-green Swallow
Black-capped Chickadee
Mountain Chickadee
Pine Siskin- large numbers at the feeder
Cassin's Finch- continually at the feeder
Red Crossbill- three died from hitting windows
Evening Grosbeak- many adults & young at the feeder
Song Sparrow
White-crowned Sparrow
Dark-eyed Junco
Chipping Sparrow
Black-headed Grosbeak

On the way back on the 4th, we drove the loop road at the Bear R. Migratory
Bird Refuge and recorded 31 species in 2.5 hours on a hot morning. There were
well over 100 Western Grebe, American White Pelican, White-faced Ibis, Black-
necked Stilt, and Yellow-headed Blackbirds (but, surprisingly no Red-winged
Blackbirds). Most interesting sightings were about 8 Baird's Sandpipers, 6
Snowy Plovers, and 1 Caspian Tern.
