Feature Bird
------------
TUFTED PUFFIN

Friday, August 7
----------------
No sightings reported.

Thursday, August 6
------------------
A TUFTED PUFFIN was seen from a whale watching boat east of Trial Island
off Oak Bay. An extended watch off Clover Point in Victoria, the shoreline
of the Victoria Golf Course or perhaps the shoreline of Ten Mile Point
could result in a sighting of this species, which is rare here at any time
of the year, but is seen usually in the months of June through August.

A GREEN HERON was on Lochside Trail at Jolivet Crescent.

A male INDIGO BUNTING was seen again August 6, not reported August 7, on
Lochside Drive just north of Martindale Road. The bird was first seen
there August 2. The same bird was also seen flying in and over the corn
fields on either side of Martindale Road just where the north-south
drainage ditch passes under the road. The same bird was also seen singing
from the trees and shrubs in the woodlot to the east of the model aircraft
field north of Martindale Road.

Wednesday, August 5
-------------------
A bird thought to be a female LAZULI BUNTING was seen in this same area,
and earlier reports of the female LAZULI or perhaps a LAZULI-INDIGO hybrid
bird were also received. Birders are asked to watch for any sign of
nesting by either the male INDIGO BUNTING and the female LAZULI or INDIGO
hybrid in this general area, as that would be an important record for us.

A family of BARRED OWLS was being very vocal at Doumac Park off Lochside
Drive in the Cordova Bay area. Search for these birds in the upper end of
the Park, especially near the staircase leading to Piedmont Blvd.

A bird thought to be a COMMON TERN was off Whiffen Spit in Sooke.

4 COMMON TERNS were off Cattle Point in Oak Bay.
